00 / BEFORE YOU START
Three things you’ll need.
Flare Chat is a ChatGPT plugin shared with Codex. This private preview is installed through Codex and is available only to authorized Flare project members. Download the bundle below; you do not need to request the files from anyone.
Codex is ready
Use the Codex desktop app or CLI and make sure you are signed in.
You belong to a project
Your Flare account must be a member of at least one Flare project.
Download the bundle
Get the private preview ZIP directly from Flare Chat—no admin handoff required.
01 / INSTALL
Download and add the marketplace.
Download the ZIP, extract it, and move the folder somewhere permanent on your computer. The extracted root should contain both of these files:
flare-chat-marketplace/
├── .agents/plugins/marketplace.json
└── plugins/flare-chat/.codex-plugin/plugin.json- STEP 01
Add the bundle as a marketplace
This example assumes you moved the extracted folder into your home directory.
codex plugin marketplace add ~/flare-chat-marketplace - STEP 02
Install Flare Chat
Install the plugin from the personal marketplace you just added.
codex plugin add flare-chat@personal
FUTURE DISTRIBUTION
Simpler installs as the preview expands.
GIT MARKETPLACE
One command. No ZIP.
Once the marketplace has a public Git repository, Codex can pull it directly. The website will replace the download steps with the real repository command.
codex plugin marketplace add owner/repo --ref mainOPENAI PLUGIN DIRECTORY
One-click installation.
After review and publication, Flare Chat can appear in the shared ChatGPT and Codex plugin directory without a manual marketplace setup.
How plugin publishing works ↗02 / VERIFY & CONNECT
Confirm the connection.
Run both checks. The results should show the plugin and its Flare Chat MCP server.
PLUGIN
codex plugin list --jsonMCP SERVER
codex mcp get flare_chat --json- 01
Restart Codex or open a new conversation.
- 02
Enable Flare Chat for that conversation.
- 03
Complete the Auth0 sign-in and consent flow when prompted.
03 / TRY IT
Start with a real project question.
Use one of these prompts as written, or adapt it to your own project and work.
01“List my active Flare projects.”
02“Summarize the Flare project named Project Alpha.”
03“Find Flare artifacts about field inspections.”
04“What changed recently in Project Alpha?”
04 / ACCESS & SECURITY
Useful context. Firm boundaries.
The preview exposes a focused set of read-only tools. Flare still enforces project membership on every request.
- 01List the Flare projects you can access
- 02Get project details and members
- 03Search project artifacts
- 04Get recent project messages
